Is spring getting close in your backyard?

I was going to blog about something else tonight, another room in my house, but lo and behold, I didn't have any pictures in the computer of that room. Hard to believe. And I'm thinking that it would be too much work to scan them tonight.

I looked outside my window and wondered if it is really possible that spring will ever get here. I see a few patches of brown in the front yard, but the back yard remains a vision of white.

The cooper kettle off of my deck tells the story.

Today! I guess there has been much progress in the last two weeks!
May 15, last year. Will my cooper kettle look like this in just over one month?
Not likely, since I won't be back from Africa until May 19.
Maybe the hubby will surprise me . . .

Winter is on its way.

From noon until three in the afternoon darkness came over all the land. Matthew 27:45

It’s hard to believe that only a week ago, the view out my back door was stunning.  The reds and yellows bathed my yard in color, practically glowing.
.
All it took were a few dreary windy days for the leaves to fall to the ground.

Before I know it there will be snow on that ground. I used to love winter, but those days seem to be gone. I hole up in my house when it is cold out and I just don’t play in the snow like I used to. But I have spring to look forward to.

In just five or six short months, the snow will be melted and my trees will be budding out again. Life will return to my backyard.

It reminds me of Good Friday. The cold, the darkness. But Easter Sunday arrived and the sun (the Son) broke out and covered the land, bringing life to all who believed.

Lord, thank you for the many seasons of our lives. Help me to remember that no season will last forever and that warm days will return. And that someday I will be living in the endless season of life in heaven. Amen

Ready for April showers. In March?

Signs of Spring. I finally only have a few essences of snow left in the yard, those banks hanging on for dear life, and lots of those moldy-looking spots on the dead grass where the snow has just melted. The crocuses are gallantly popping unto the lawn. Robins are everywhere. And I am going to talk my husband into stringing our American flag up the flagpole in the front yard.

Yep, I think that it is really Spring, way early here in northern Wisconsin. We may get a few snow showers, a dusting or even an inch or two yet into April, but it won’t last more than a day or two.

Here’s my newest sign that Spring has arrived. My husband tacked a rain gauge to the deck. Missed the first few rains, but now I’m ready. We’re not measuring any more snow, just going to be measuring those warm Spring showers.

Living in the Dead Zone

Ok, so here is the story of my life every spring.
Taken last night a mile from my house.
Just a half a mile from my house.
At the end of my driveway.
My backyard. Seriously. Taken last night within minutes of the rest of the pictures. Honestly. This would be why I don't get cell phone reception at my house. Because I live in the Dead Zone.
