Bucket List Items

As you may already know, I was at the Green Lake Christian Writers Conference for a few days earlier this week. I even had the pleasure of sharing my publishing story with the attendees.
If you are able to read the print on the slide, you will see that I had two bucket-list items: to change the world and to be a writer. In the course of this past year, I feel I have achieved both of those dreams.

I took the long way home from Green Lake on Tuesday just to be able to check one more thing off of my bucket list. I have wanted to visit this place since it was in the national news in January 1975. (Click here to find out why it was in the news. And you can click here to find out more about this grand building. There's even a book about it.)

The history of the Novitiate is fascinating. And I am sure there are many more stories within these walls.

OK!!!! I have 3 things to say:
#1: This post made me drag my laptop out instead of using my tablet or phone, that is how intrigued I was.
#2: Very, Very, Cool--Your photos are beautiful!!!
#3: Were you there by your self?? (I can hear/see the ghosts.)

Very interesting Chris. I'm adding it to my list to visit. Have you read the book?

When I was in The Navy I served with some male nurses who had been trained by the Alexian Brothers in Chicago. When I was in nursing school the majority of nursing programs were restricted to women. Alexian Brothers was one of the few places where men could go to nursing school.

Denise, yes, I could feel the spirits of past lives here. That is why it is so inspiring - I can feel a novel churning in my head just walking the grounds.

And Elizabeth, if I do write that novel, I may contact you to help with research. I also still have to buy the book, The Abbey and Me.

Beautiful photos, Chris. It was so great seeing you again at Green Lake. Maybe next time we'll have more time to visit. Such a special week! I haven't opened your book yet, but looking forward to reading it. Blessings to you.

Chris: We went here today, the sun was setting behind it, the river was really flowing, the little waterfall was beautiful. You will not believe how we found it. (Totally on a whim) not sure you want me to take up space on your blog but it was all thanks to cell phones, google maps & a husband who just says "Why not"

Denise, I'm so glad you made it to the Novitiate. It was worth it, wasn't it? And don't ever think you are taking up space on my blog!

ok, you asked for it. We were in Shawano Co, taking a road trip to view the Barn Quilt Trail, we are a few miles from Gresham, when Dave says "Hay, lets go to that place that Chris blogged about. I try to look it up on my phone, low signal, my friend Rose tries on her phone no luck, so we kind of just start looking at the cty map. Rose says I'll call Geoff (her husband who is working out in Washington State--long story)he jumps on his laptop & whaaa laaa by typing in Indian Standoff 1975 & with the help of google maps & the Wisconsin Atlas we find it (we were only about 2 miles away) I will email you some pictures later & they will be posted on FB in an album I'm putting together of all our summer road trips.
