Get Up Close - a photo challenge

This month's photo challenge was to get close up to our subject. For the first time ever I actually took all new pictures for this challenge. Good thing I took them when I did because - praise God - our snow is finally melting.

I took all of these pictures in my backyard the end of March using my Nikon Coolpix. Some of the pictures were taken with the close-up setting on and some were not. I have played with this setting before and have yet to see much of a difference.

Isn't it amazing how simple snow - something we see from a distance as white and two-dimensional - takes on a life of its own up close.

I like the crystalline effect of the snow in the first photo but by the second and third, it looks like fluffy white frosting.

Toward the end of March, I could see what looked to me like plates stacked upon the lawn...snow plates. I was going to grab the camera and never did. I am glad that you did and, I agree, there's more going on with snow than one sees at first glance.

Hi Chris! Your snow photos are really pretty! Although it's all white, it is so neat how the shadows and highlights make it look like so many different colors! great job!

Where I live we never (not in my life time) get snow!! So I've only seen it a few times.
Your first photo is incredible and just what I imagined it would like inside a snow cave!

Lovely to meet you at Donna's challenge - I'm now following you!

Glad you joined us again this month, Chris! I really like the twinkling effect in the first photo. And the graphic shapes in the other photos highlight the lovely texture of snow.

I am just way too tired of snow , as our winter has drug on for far too long, but your photos are lovely. You have captured some of the different textures of snow. Those who live in the south probably don't know that each snowfall can be different. soft, fluffy, sticky, granular, etc. etc.

Thanks for all the great comments. We were gone on vacation last week. We had over three feet of snow on the ground (with more falling) when we left town, and it was wonderful to come home and find that a lot of it had melted. There really was ground underneath all that white stuff!

Snow seems a far distant memory here, but I'm always happy to look at the sparkly white stuff. Your photos are great. It's amazing how getting close to something enables one to see so much detail.
