This month's personal photo challenge was "still life". Since I wasn't able to get it together for last month's challenge of "motion", I committed myself to get this one right.
The thing is when someone mentions a "still life", our minds all go to bowls of fruit and vases of flowers, all inside a building where the lighting can be controlled. Well, the weather here was outstanding a few weeks ago and I wasn't about to work on anything inside which I could take outside.
My first inspiration was this leaf which was resting on this fence post. I didn't do any manipulating to get it there, I just stumbled upon it while walking down a trail.
But maybe a few more leaves needed a little bit of help to get in the right position.
And finally I even was able to work in the shadow aspect.
I don't know if I nailed this challenge, but you're not dragging me in the house til the snow flies.

Chris those leaves look pretty still to me. You caught them at a quiet moment and they are beautiful shots.
The falling leaves are sporadic around here yet but soon will be falling, piling up, carpeting the ground. . .and we will be raking and raking again for the months to come!
Don't blame you remaining outside for this challenge - you caught some lovely leaves. I especially love the last pic with the grained wood and shadows.
Enjoy autumn in all its glory.

Perfect ! :)
Autumn is my favorite time of year! Love the colors you have captured.
You've captured wonderful still life photos of autumn. Leaves are just beginning to fall here and I'm looking forward to taking some of these kinds of photos.
Enjoy the outdoors as much as possible!
When I researched Donna's links there was a leaf on a rock and it was called 'found still life' I believe. Whether you found or placed the leaves, each of your photos is a pretty autumnal example of a still life.
Fall leaves...you really did nail it! Beautiful photos for the challenge. We'll be spending a lot of time outdoors now that the weather is milder here. Hugs!
Some wonderful still life scenes can present itself outdoors, as you discovered! You aced this assignment with the leaves. The first one looks like it was strategically placed, but nature was just waiting for you to come by and admire its handiwork! The other two are also marvelous. The color contrast on the second one gives a nice visual pop, and the shadows on the third one add to the texture.
Glad to see you come back this month. You'll be happy to know that next month's assignment will require work outdoors: trees!
In my humble opinion, you nailed it! I love each one of them!
Great choices, similar to my reaction.
Very creative approach to still life. These are very well done.
Thanks for all the great comments. I understand that "trees" is the theme for next month. I'm obviously excited about that one and am going to start working on it right away!
Good for you for staying outdoors as long as possible. Your leaves are so bright and colourful -- I'd be taking pictures of them too.
Love, love your still life! The color of the leaves against the post, and green color are just so pretty. Great job! Thank you for sharing them with us! xxDazee
