Messiah

But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” (Luke 2:10-12, New International Version)

According to my online dictionary, Messiah means 1) a leader or savior of a particular group or cause or 2) the promised deliverer of the Jewish nation prophesied in the Hebrew Bible. Christians believe that Jesus is the Messiah of the Hebrew prophecies and the savior of humankind.

Unfortunately, at the time of His birth, many wanted to be delivered from Roman rule. They didn’t realize that what they really needed was to be saved from their sins.

What about you? What do you need to be delivered from?
